The Iowa Interstate Railroad is a large Midwest Regional Railroad. The IAIS trains travel 470 miles over former Rock Island trackage from Chicago, Illinois to Council Bluffs, Iowa. The state of South Dakota bought the line and the Miwaukee Road bankrupcy so grain could be shipped from the south east part of the state. They are in the process of selling the line to BNSF. The line is operated by the Dakota & Iowa Railroad which is owned by the L.G. Everest company.Dakota and Iowa Railroad (DAIR) is a wholly owned subsidiary of L.G. Everist, Inc., owner of one of the largest privately owned fleets of railroad equipment of any aggregate producer in North America. The Dakota & Iowa Railroad is a scenic 138 mile short line. HAWARDEN—Two former Hawkeye Express railcars have caught the community’s eye while sitting in their temporary home near Hawarden. D&I Railroad general manager Scott Van Den Top said D&I’s parent company L.G.
